Recent flooding has had a devastating effect on many in our community. People may be awaiting the impact of anticipated events. They may be deeply affected by their experiences and the accounts of others. They may have lost treasured possessions, homes, and livelihoods.
People react to crisis in different ways. Some may be strongly affected and need immediate support. Some may seem calm at the time of an event but have strong reactions later. Some can manage their situation on their own or have support from other sources.
Psychosocial support in emergencies is best delivered as a community-based activity. Mitigation, rescue, relief, and recovery efforts on the ground have brought together neighbours, community organisations, and governments at all levels. Others have signed up to volunteer or donate.
Partners in Wellbeing provides free wellbeing support, financial counselling, and business advice. Ring 1300 375 330, 9 am to 10 pm weekdays, 9 am to 5 pm weekends.
